Making an appointment

Ensure you are aware of the specific type of immigration medical examination required from you.

If you are unsure, please contact Immigration New Zealand’s (INZ) Customer Service Centre for clarification. You can contact them at 0508 55 88 55.

You can book your immigration medical appointment time with us via this link: Book Immigration Medical Exam.

Once booked, we will send you a link to our Immigration Medical Form, which you will need to complete prior to your appointment.

On your appointment day

Please bring your passport on the day of your Christchurch immigration health appointment. We need this to confirm your identity.

You will need to complete a consent form and have your photo taken for the eMedical system.

We will need to ask you some questions about your health. If you have any medical letters that you think are relevant, please bring them with you as well as a list of any medications you take.

A nurse will check your height, weight, blood pressure, vision, and conduct blood and urine tests. The panel physician will review your health history and perform a physical examination.

If a chest X-ray is needed, you will receive a form to take to Pacific Radiology Moorhouse located at 3 Pilgrim Place (see directions from our clinic). The X-ray fee is paid directly to Pacific Radiology.

Things to bring on your appointment

For your immigration medicals appointment, please:

  • If you use prescription eyewear, bring your eyeglasses or contact lenses.
  • Provide a list of current medications and any relevant medical specialist reports.
  • If pregnant, bring evidence such as a note from your midwife.

If you cannot understand or speak English, bring an interpreter. This can be a family member or friend, but please be aware private medical history will be discussed.

Passport details

Immigration NZ requires a passport for identification to verify your identity. If your passport is unavailable, you may use a Certificate of Identity (INZ 1052) or Refugee Travel Documents with your photo, name, and date of birth.

Certified or ordinary copies of these documents are not acceptable due to fraud risks. Photocopies of passports, expired passports, driver’s licenses, and National ID cards are also not accepted with eMedicals.

If INZ holds your passport, request its return to present it at your immigration medical examinations. Typically, you should have your passport available for the medical exam because they do not require a passport until an application is lodged.

Results are usually ready within one (1) week, but it may take longer if there are any abnormal findings or delays at the lab.

Bring all your medications and specialist reports. You can discuss these with the nurse and doctor during your exam or follow-up appointment. We will advise on any further tests needed. However, INZ requires all applicants to meet its acceptable standard of health, and we cannot influence their decisions. For more information, please check the Immigration New Zealand website, or discuss this with your Christchurch immigration laywer or adviser if you have one.

Our preferred provider is Pacific Radiology Moorhouse located at 3 Pilgrim Place (see map location). The X-ray fee is paid directly to Pacific Radiology.

After your immigration appointment

If any abnormal results are found, a nurse will contact you to discuss further steps. Additional tests or specialist referrals may be needed at an extra cost. This is not covered by your immigration medical fee.

Once completed, the panel physician will submit your eMedical to INZ. INZ will then confirm receipt of your medical.

You can obtain copies of your medical from the clinic with proper identification after it has been submitted.

Approved panel physicians do not determine if you meet INZ health requirements; this is done by an Immigration Officer or INZ medical assessor.
